Native Programs
Cultural Diversity is at the heart of our treatment. It is our goal to promote cultural responsiveness during the process of treatment. Our native programming includes:
Therapy
Our psychotherapist is native and it is our this person who provides opportunities for the children to discuss their culture both in individual therapy as well as group therapy. There is a strong reconnection with the land. Children have an opportunity speak with an Elder.
Arts Programming
Each of the foster programmes are provided with ideas and opportunities for the children to do crafts, visit the trading posts to acquire soapstone and art equipment. All children have access to native legends and stories and books are readily available in all homes. All homes are equipped with CDs by native musicians. Each foster home is equipped with a language book
Cooking/baking
Children have access to customary foods and each home has recipes which the children and foster parents make, i.e. would be Indian Pudding, Indian Tacos, Bannock...
Spiritual
A poster of the medicine wheel/four directions and some dream catchers are in each of the homes. All homes are educated around the benefits of smudging, sage and sweet grass. Talking circles are used as the forums to discuss weekly issues in the homes. Children attend local as well as regional POW WOWS. Children are encouraged to learn how to drum.
